It was odd for me to look at Peso Pluma’s discography and multiple songs with hundreds of millions of listens—one was even over a billion!

This is normal when looking at Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, or Beyoncé’s discography. However, it is a niche artist from Mexico as famous as this without my knowledge.

That only meant it was time for me to dig deep into his life and discover everything from Peso Pluma’s height to his background story!

Early Life and Childhood

To start, our star here isn’t called Peso Pluma—naturally. Peso was born Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija but decided against using his real name on stage.

He’s Rubi Lija’s and Hassan Kabande’s only child, born on the 15th of June 1999 in Zapopan, Mexico. His mother is Mexican, but his father has Lebanese and Palestinian roots.

From what I gathered, Peso Pluma is relatively private, often sharing very little about his early life.

However, I found out he attended Samuel Clemens High School in Texas and lived in New York for a while.

Now, Peso Pluma’s parents weren’t singers themselves. Information about his dad’s career remains unknown, though rumors about him owning a hotel chain existed. On the other hand, his mom worked hard as a makeup artist and was often away from home.

Naturally, this only led to me asking why he pursued this path, with nobody in his family having a direct link in the music industry.

According to Peso, he had a very happy childhood, surrounded by music he loved as it moved him.

So, by turning 15, Peso picked up the guitar and started watching YouTube videos, hoping to improve his skills.

During that age, he also wrote about his feelings and thoughts in a diary. Soon enough, he noticed the words rhymed, and something clicked within him. He practiced more, and, lucky for us, a new star began shining.

Peso Pluma’s Characteristics and Appearance

Peso Pluma stands between 5’5” and 5’7”, with dark brown hair and honey-brown eyes that seem to hold a bit of mystery, and weighs around 140–150 pounds.

When it comes to Peso’s personality, he’s deeply connected to his roots, often reminiscing about his childhood and the memories of watching soccer matches with his dad. That bond with his parents isn’t just sentimental; it’s the core of his relentless drive.

Peso credits his hardworking mom and dad for shaping his ambitious personality and way of thinking—a trait that no doubt fueled his rise in the music scene. What set Peso apart from other artists was his emotional depth.

While many at his age might’ve been too cool to admit keeping a diary, he embraced it, pouring his thoughts and feelings into words when others teased him.

That sensitivity shines through in his music, giving fans a glimpse of the real person behind the voice.

Shining Career and Controversy

Peso Pluma started his career in early 2020 by collaborating with his cousin, Tito Double P, on two live albums, Disco en Vivo and Disco en Vivo, Vol 2.

These albums, released through the independent label El Cartel de Los Ángeles, helped show off his skills and build his initial fanbase.

His debut studio album, Ah y Qué?,  followed shortly in April 2020, featuring 12 tracks and teaming up with artists like El Choforo and Lalo Reyes.

During that same time, Peso released singles, including “Relajado Voy” and “Mil Historias.” In March 2021, he released his second studio album, Efectos Secundarios.

However, his single “Por Las Noches” stood out during that time, which was a sorrowful sierreño track about a breakup. It showed his willingness to explore more emotional depth in his music and go beyond the typical themes of corridos.

By the end of the year, Peso Pluma had switched to Prajin Records. To show the world this major transformation in his career, he released a socio-political track called “Spiral.”

2022: Viral Success and Breakthrough

Peso Plum’s big moment came in 2022 with El Belicón, a collab with Raul Vega that put corridos tumbados on the map.

The song about narcoculture blew up on TikTok and Instagram, racking up more than 10 million views on YouTube in a month and landing him on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart.

In April, Peso dropped the Sembrando EP, perfectly timed for the 420 holiday, further cementing his spot in the corridos tumbados scene.

He also linked up with Garena Free Fire for “Sentosa” and later released 30 Tiros, a personal track about his rise to fame.

Controversy and Further Growth

Not all of his fame was smooth. His collab with Luis R. Conriquez, “Siempre Pendientes,” sparked controversy for its nod to El Chapo, even removing its music video from YouTube.

The heat continued when he performed at the 8 Music Fest—only natural as the show had a picture of El Chapo projected on the big screen for its entirety— but Peso stood by his art.

Despite the drama surrounding him, Peso kept climbing. By the year’s end, he dropped more hits like El Gavilán and AMG with Natanael Cano, making his fusion of corridos and urban sounds almost impossible to ignore.

Personal Life and Relationships

It seems that Peso Pluma was involved in two primary relationships. The first one was in July 2023, with singer Nicki Nicole.

There were many rumors about them dating before Nicki confirmed their relationship by the end of that year. Soon after, a video of Peso Pluma with another woman started gaining traction. Of course, this signaled the end of his relationship with Nicki.

Around a year later, Peso confirmed he was in a relationship with Hanna Howell, an American influencer.

Sadly, their relationship didn’t last, and Hannah confirmed they had broken up. Oddly enough, she also stated that Peso Plum had returned everything to her except her dog, which she wants back.
